How to Organize Your Multimedia
Using a Multimedia Drive
After a long amount of time, multimedia on a computer can become really messy and dispersed randomly across a computer’s hard disk. This makes it entirely aggravating to locate significant pictures or music and can be extremely time consuming. To avoid these types of situations, you can begin getting into the habit of organizing your Multimedia Drive. There are several ways to do this, and after getting everything in its own place, things will seem a lot less messy or cramped.
Different Formats for your Multi Media Drive
Begin fishing out messy files by opening up the Search window in Windows and searching for common file types such as:
“.JPG,”
“.JPEG,”
“.GIF,”
“.MP3,”
“.AVI,”
Chances are you have all sorts of files like this all over your computer, and it’s time to get them into a neat and organized spot. Once you’ve got some search results flowing in, make sure they are files that you have manually downloaded or created such as photographs or songs. Open them and play or view them to make sure you’re not accidentally going to be manipulating vital system files.

Choosing Files to Organize in your Multimedia Drive
Once you’ve found files that you’d like to organize, begin dropping them into the pre-made Windows designated folders. Windows comes preloaded with folders called, “My Music,” “My Videos,” “My Documents,” etc. A great way to organize your files is by using these folders. Create sub folders within for similar files that fall under the same category so that you’re extra organized.
If you want to make things simpler, you can also choose to sort your Multimedia Drive in its designated folders by the date. This helps to remind you when the file was created, the last time it was modified, etc.
Organizing a Multi Media Drive
Another great way to organize multimedia (especially if it is being downloaded from the internet) is to set a default folder for all programs or browsers to download to. When a file is downloaded from the internet it is stored in a particular folder on your computer temporarily or permanently. Instead of letting programs create TONS of these types of folders, make one specific folder dedicated to this purpose and set every program to download to it. That way all of your downloaded files are essentially dumped into the same folder and not all throughout your computer. This really helps out when you’re searching for your Multimedia Drive for a file that was recently downloaded, and you can’t seem to remember what folder it was downloaded to.
